At the Feb. 29 meeting of the School Board of the City of Portsmouth, the School Board voted to approve a school calendar with a pre-Labor Day start for the 2024-25 school year. This change was implemented to best align with neighboring school divisions in the region.

Our Mission Statement

Our mission at New Directions Center is to provide all students with a safe and nurturing environment with a core curriculum, which stresses on the total development of each child: socially, academically, intellectually, emotionally and physically. Students are provided education in an environment that allows them to be civic-minded while preparing them to make ethical decisions with confidence and competence before entering the regular school setting as skillful communicators with problem-solving skills, capable of creative thinking.

New Directions Center also delivers quality education to K-12 student in an alternative school environment that educates, empowers, and enables students to become caring, responsible and contributing citizens. We are committed to providing a high-quality alternative education program that focuses on student-centered instruction which fosters positive character and accountability.
